Welcome to the Independence Elks Lodge
The Independence Elks Lodge is located in the heart of downtown Independence, Oregon, just steps away from the scenic Willamette River, the beautiful Riverview Park, and the center of the city’s major community events. With more than 300 members, the Lodge is maintained by dedicated volunteers who come together to care for the building, build friendships, and support the local community. Members are actively involved in service projects, consistently giving back to make Independence a safe and welcoming place for both kids and adults.
The city of Independence hosts a popular summer music series in Riverview Park and continues to draw large crowds for its annual Independence Days Fireworks show. Polk County is home to more than 86,000 residents, while Salem, the state capital, located just ten miles away, boasts a population of over 170,000.
The History of the Independence Lodge
Right on Main Street in the heart of downtown Independence, Oregon, our Lodge has been a cornerstone of the community since 1955. For nearly 70 years, neighbors from Independence, Monmouth, and Dallas have gathered here to connect, give back, and create lifelong friendships.
Our building is full of character — two stories, over 21,000 square feet, and even a piece of history. Once home to a grocery store, J.C. Penney’s, and the Isis Theatre, the Lodge has transformed into a vibrant community space. Today, our renovated Lodge Room and rental hall can welcome up to 325 guests for celebrations, concerts, and community events.
We’ve faced challenges, too. In 1979, a fire devastated part of the Lodge. But the Elks spirit is resilient — members came together, rebuilt, and carried the tradition forward. That same spirit continues today.
At our peak, we were more than 1,300 strong. Today, over 300 members keep the heart of Lodge #1950 beating — volunteering, giving back, and making our community a safer, happier place for kids and adults alike.

Weekly Lodge Meetings
The Independence Elks Lodge #1950 meets every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm in our Lodge Room.
- Summer Schedule (July & August): Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday only.
- Board of Directors: Meets on the second Monday of each month.
