About Us

Welcome to the Independence Elks Lodge

The Independence Elks Lodge sits in the bustling downtown of Independence, Oregon.  The Lodge sits right next to the beautiful Willamette River, the incredible Riverview Park, and every major event that happens in the downtown area.  The Lodge has over 300 members and volunteers take care of the building, socialize, and connect with the community.  Lodge Members volunteer in the community and consistently give back to help make the community a safe place for kids and adults alike.

Independence recently started holding a summer music series in Riverview Park, and continues it's well-attended Independence Days Fireworks show.  Polk County, Oregon has an incredible population of over 86,000 people.  Salem, the state capital, boasts a population of over 170,000 people is about ten miles away.

The History of the Independence Lodge

The Independence Elks Lodge #1950 sits on Main Street in the heart of downtown Independence, Oregon.  Having opened its doors in 1955, the Elks Lodge has become a staple of the Independence, Monmouth, and Dallas communities.

The lodge consists of two floors and approximately 21,000 square feet.  The Lodge currently sits on the sites of a previous grocery store and a J.C. Penny's.  The Elks Lodge obtained the Isis Theatre and has since turned it into a Lodge Room and rental space which can hold up to 325 people.

On March 24, 1979, the Lodge burned down in the middle of the night.  Though no cause was ever determined, the fire completely destroyed the entire left side of the building which holds the lounge.  The newly renovated Isis Theatre was saved due to fire doors that had recently been installed.

When the fire occurred in the lodge, membership was at an all-time high of over 1,300 members.  Today, over 300 members make up the total membership of the Independence Elks Lodge.

The Independence Elks Lodge meets every Tuesday.  During the summer months (July and August), Lodge will only meet on the second and fourth Tuesday.
